Things I Love Thursday - Fro-yo disguised as runner fuel

This is what almost a pound of fro-yo looks like. Half coconut, half peanut butter chocolate cookie, topped with Snickers and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup crumbles, cookie dough pieces and two macaroons. I didn't even pretend to make it healthy. And I savored every bite. I was admittedly a little sick for the hour after it hit my stomach, but I have no regrets.

Then there's this little guy. He wanders around the house, bumping into walls and funiture. For those of you who haven't been properly introduced, this is Rowdy. He slowly went blind a few years ago and then had his eyes completely removed about two years ago because he had glaucoma. He also has Addison's disease, takes medicine for incontinence and is losing his hearing, but we love him. He's part of the family and has been around since before Grace and Ellie appeared on the scene. And when he gets his duck at bedtime, he's irresistible. Ever since he was a tiny puppy, he has brought us his stuffed animal to let us know he's ready to go to bed.

Then there's this. This is pretty much how I felt this morning. And looked. Who are we kidding; it's pretty much me every morning lately. Janae even asked if I was ok when she got to the pool yesterday because I looked pretty much like the last picture. Yep, I was ok; just tired. But pool time and the little bit of running (15 whole minutes!!) yesterday were worth getting up when the alarm went off.

Are you a morning person or a night person? I'm neither and both. I just need my eight hours of sleep.
What's your favorite fro-yo topping? I love Snickers and cookie dough. They are good on every flavor!!

  1. That FroYo looks amazing right now. I will take two.
I am a morning person when I don't have to get up to go to work. If I have to go to work then I too resemble the above picture.

    1. I love that I'm not the only person who is only a morning person sometimes!!

I think fro-yo should be on your weekend to-do list!!

    2. I am definitely a morning person, even if it takes me a bit to actually wake up. Ross is a night owl though, which makes things interesting. Sometimes I pretend I can be both, but it never works out in my favor;)

In regards to your fro yo, go big or go home. I was quite envious actually:) Anything with pb or chocolate is my go to topping.

  2. I am most definitely a morning person. As in VERY early morning -- 4 am. I actually love the quiet time to myself and it's only hard when we go out late and I want to sleep in the next day, but can't.

That fro yo looks kind of wonderful. I would enjoy that right about now.

    1. I totally understand staying up late and paying for it the next morning!!

  3. I use to be a morning person but since having kids...I LOVE LOVE LOVE my quiet evenings!!! Once they go to bed, my time starts and I find it hard to go to bed until late. Which then makes it easy to wake up very early.
As for fro yo...haven't had it in forever!!! But yours looks DELICIOUS!

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
