It's all about the cross training (and food)

I took a little time off to relax, enjoy the Christmas holiday with my family, and eat lots of food. Including plenty of sugar cookies. With frosting. Lots and lots of frosting. And sprinkles. I may have a small obsession with sprinkles. For breakfast on Christmas Eve (and again Christmas morning) we had chocolate chip coffee cake. It is a family favorite. And tradition. We are big on tradition. Another tradition that just kind of happened is In-n-Out for Christmas Eve dinner. After having it during the day on Christmas Eve while doing last minute shopping the past several years, it just felt right. Now that the important food items are out of the way, I want to tell you about a shoe I have been loving lately. The Asics GEL-Fit Sana is a fitness shoe that has been great for all my cross training. Here's a little more, straight from the source: The GEL-Fit Sana™ features a Flexible Fit system with flexible support bands from heel to forefoot, to provide adaptab

The Official 2014 I Have Run Gift Idea List

I promised you some good gift ideas. And I believe these qualify as more than good. For your favorite person, you can't go wrong with the  Fanny Funny Farting Coin Drop Bank .     I actually think Scott would take this over the zebra print shower cap I have:  Ice Cream Cone Shower Cap !   And because it is so appropriate for this time of year, why not get that naughty person on your list some  Lump of Coal Soap ? From what I hear, everyone loves bacon. And the smell of bacon...heaven. With this  Bacon Air Freshener , you can have heaven wherever you want. Seriously, what runner wouldn't appreciate a pair of Emergency Underpant s ?!?   Tell me your shower wouldn't look better with this  Nose Gel Dispenser  hanging in it. Go ahead. Tell me. And for the truly discerning person on your list this year, be sure you stick some Fancy Pickle flavored candy canes  in their stocking. Now for some gifts that I think any r

The secret about treats baked with love

It's been a while since I've had a post primarily about food. So it's time. I went to a wedding over the weekend. There were roasted pigs displayed on the head table and served with dinner. You will notice there is no roasted pork on my plate. Seeing it still in pig form before they served it was a little too much for me.   After the wedding we made a quick stop at Trader Joe's because I have been craving their mini chocolate peanut butter cups ever since I finished off the ones Janae gave me for my birthday. We left with a few more things than just (four containers of) the peanut butter cups.   Ever since Thanksgiving, I've been saying I would make our own little Thanksgiving dinner so we could enjoy the leftovers that we missed out on because we went to my aunt's house. Sunday I finally got my cooking groove on and cooked a turkey breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean cassarole and sweet potatoes. For dessert we had pumpkin cake with cream cheese fros

Laugh. Cry. It's all here.

I am somewhat emotionally stunted when it comes to everyday life. I cry maybe once a year over upsetting things in my life. Instead I just keep it all in and let things build up. And sometimes I get angry instead of sad when sadness is the appropriate emotion for a given situation. Ask my husband. He'll back me up on this confession. However, when something moves me, as in touches my spirit, my soul, I get weepy. This kind of emotional overload overtook me twice while on the elliptical today (because it is Grace's turn to be home sick). One of the times was when I watched this:   Now that I've made you cry, here are a few funny things to make you smile: It made me laugh. Out loud.   Critical information indeed. Maybe I'll start taking more baths now. I'm more of a shower kind of girl. But add food and that might change.   I should hang this on my mirror. And I should also resist the temptation to send it to certain other people I know on a regular basis.   #truth

And because it's the Christmas season and my favorite time of the year, I wanted to share this video/song that I really love: Happy Friday!

Family, faith...and Buddy the elf.

Family : This time of year, I tend to think a lot about what is really important. Not just as far as Christmas goes, but in my life in general. It is so easy to get caught up in the things going on around us, especially with Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest making us feel like we don't measure up when it comes to fitness or travel or crafting or whatever it is. But those things really don't matter. They don't define us. Family matters. Faith matters. When I die, it won't matter how many miles I ran every week or whether I was "famous" on Instagram or if my Facebook feed revealed regular check-ins at exotic places or if I regularly busted out perfect replicas of the things on my Pinterest boards. What will matter is the legacy I leave as a mother, wife, daughter. If my girls are strong, kind women who have faith in things that are real, that will matter. If my husband knows I loved him and put him and my girls before everything else, that will matter. If m

These are a few of my favorite things...

Favorite Thing #1: If you've been stopping by my blog for very long, you may know where my blog title comes from. If not, this might give you a clue... Yesterday tickets went on sale for longtime fan club members, which of course applies to the hubs and I, so clearly tickets were purchased. Favorite Thing #2:  I'm loving this album, which was a surprise from the hubs. I was so confused when I got in the car one day and heard Michael Buble singing Baby It's Cold Outside  with someone but I just couldn't put a finger on the female voice or figure out what CD I was listening to until I noticed he strategically placed the CD case on the console. Favorite Thing #3:  Yesterday was National Cookie Day! The hubs came home with these to celebrate the day properly. Did you celebrate? Favorite Thing #4: The elliptical in itself is not one of my favorite things, but one of my favorite things about it is that I can read while ellipticizi
