Things I Love Thursday - Gotein and Giving Things Away

I'm a vanilla girl. I'm not saying I'm vanilla, like as in boring. I just like vanilla flavored and scented things.

Milkshake? Vanilla.
Hand soap? Vanilla.
Candle? Vanilla.

So when I was contacted and asked to review Gotein "protein to go," I was not surprised that my favorite is the vanilla. And it is yummy. I've never really been a protein shake drinker, but I've been thinking about adding it to my diet. So the review (and wait for it.......giveaway) were perfect timing.

I was a little nervous the first time I poured a Gotein packet into my bottle of water. I tried chocolate first thinking maybe it would be like my post-run chocolate milk. I'll be honest; it wasn't. But it was good. It mixed up completely and went down easy. And it was just the right amount of chocolaty, with no aftertaste.

So the next time, I tried the vanilla. Holy yum. And even though I kept forgetting to put some water bottles in the fridge and had to drink it at room temperature, it was still great.

The strawberry is my third favorite, but my girls LOVED it. I'm just not a strawberry drink girl.

The stick packs are made for a 16.9 oz bottle of water. You just drink about 1/3 of the bottle (which I found is important or it will taste too watered down), pour in the Gotein, swirl and shake. Easy peasy.

And for the nutrition nuts out there, here are the stats:
  • 6 grams or less carbs per serving
  • 110 calories or less per serving
  • 1 gram of sugar
  • 17 grams of protein
  • 24 vitamins and minerals

I can tell you, as soon as my U2 tickets sell on eBay, I'll be buying several boxes of Gotein. At $24.95 for a box of 12 stick packets, it isn't too spendy. I'm just feeling poor because I've spent too much on running clothes lately.

And yes, after much debate and deliberation, we decided on a trip to Disney (not sure yet if it will be Land or World) with our girls instead of going to New York to see U2 again. It was a difficult decision since New York and U2 are two of my most favorite things in the world, but they just aren't as high on the list as my two incredible little girls.

So there is a sweet deal on some U2 tickets at Meadowlands Stadium on eBay, and there is a sweet Gotein giveaway right here. Yep, you can try Gotein for yourself. Here's what to do to enter to win your own samples of each Gotein flavor (leave a separate comment for each, please):

  12. Follower! Excited to try some of this stuff!

Oh my - have you your girls been to Disney? It is so much fun for them! We flew Allegiant to (World) and it was really inexpensive. Let me know if you need any tips! I've heard Land has too much concrete, but we are thinking of trying it next year. If you haven't already check out the DIS boards - lots of great info on there.

  17. As if potty parties weren't excitement enough, it is way cool you're sacrificing adult playtime for the kids and Disney.
You can do that adult stuff in like 20 years. Bono will wait for you.

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
