Things I Love Thursday - 26.2

Don't you just hate it when real work gets in the way of blogging. Alas, that is what happened the past few days. So instead of writing a play-by-play of my 12-mile run last week or a May running recap, I was learning everything there is to know about the American Concrete Institute Intermountain Chapter. Tell me you're not jealous.

And now since it's Thursday, I must focus on something I love. This is quite easy since I have a backlog of Thursday topics. However, the post title might be a little misleading. I am still trying to make peace with 26.2 MILES. However, I am loving my 26.2 APPAREL. I received two pairs of shorts and four shirts for Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day to me indeed! I have worn all six items but only managed to get a few pictures.

Gotta love the sweaty, post-run pics. I LOVE this shirt. It is seriously the softest fabric. I also got a solid pink shirt that is the same fabric that might become an everyday item in my wardrobe because it is so soft and comfy. Plus it is as wicking and cool as it is soft. I like these shorts, but not as much as the other pair I got. I'm just not sold on the little flare thing they do on the sides. But for someone who only had one pair of shorts that I liked to wear running before I got these, the fact that I like them is BIG.

Could someone teach me how to take a good self-portrait? I tried sitting the camera on top of the TV and getting a timer pic, but those turned out worse than these. So this is what you get, a pic of my happy running face and a lovely picture that highlights my armpits. But scan down past the pits a little and you'll see my new favorite shorts.

Until recently, I was all about the running skirts or the capris. I still think capris are the kindest to my body as far as covering things up and keeping them from jiggling, but I was not loving my skirts as much lately. I just felt like I was flashing people all the time. Even sitting down to tie my shoes takes a conscious effort at modesty. So finding some shorts that don't look weird on my body makes me a very happy girl. And the shirt is great too. I was seriously lacking in the tank department, so I got this in two colors.

And since we're on the subject of 26.2, I signed up for the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon yesterday. What better way to celebrate National Running Day? I am a little unsure about those 26.2 miles but figure I can drop down to the half if I wuss out later. Let me know if you are running it! I'm excited to meet all the other bloggers and blog readers who are running the strip (at night).

  1. Loving the new threads!

I thought about running Vegas (both the husband and I did), but we realized that we could probably spend the money better elsewhere (mainly because we need to do work on the house). I'm sad I won't see any of you guys! Sounds like LOTS of people are running it!

  3. Love the outfit! Agree that I wanna love skirts but I feel like they are often flicking around too much and distract me.

  4. Love the new stuff. Getting new running clothes is the best. I am in love with that pink tank top.

I am totally debating about signing up for Vegas. I need to just bite the bullet and do it because I know I will regret it if I dont.

    Have an amazing day!

I am trying to find a way to convince Dad Wonder that I need to run Vegas...Thinking of putting a printed flyer under his pillow - maybe osmosis will work.

  8. Great new clothes, I love getting new running clothes more than I love getting new everyday clothes I think. I love the pink shirt and shorts. I am a big fan of lululemon running skirts.

  11. Yay for Vegas! It is such a cool thing - to run at night down the Strip.
I like the Greek yogurt - it's thick and creamier than regular plain yogurt. It has more protein. But of course, it is more expensive than regular plain yogurt. I have both kinds in my fridge. I have the Greek yogurt when I want something creamier!

  12. I've been hearing a lot of great buzz about 26.2 but I haven't seen much of it in stock around here. I may have to order a pair of those shorts, though, if you like them that much.

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
