Some things can just wait.

I was going to tell you about some dangerously delicious popcorn I recently made and all about my 10 mile run last weekend and about our adventures in making butterbeer, but I can tell you about those things any old day. If your week has been anything like mine, you need some funny stuff to put the icing on your Friday cake. And you're in the right place.

First there's this educational little tidbit...

Then there's the truth in this...

Speaking of books...

The story of my educational life...

My favorite kind of good fat...

I know I'm not the only one...

This one literally made me laugh out loud. Because I imagined myself doing it to certain people...

True story...

I found this one on Monday. That makes it more funny...

Another one that produced an audible chuckle...

Happy Friday people!!

Maybe I should turn this into a food blog...

I hope you all had a fabulous Valentine's Day! It was a weekend of celebrating over here. Friday night, Scott and I went on our official Valentine's date. Saturday, he surprised me with flowers and chocolates. Valentine's Day just isn't officially celebrated until chocolate is involved. Then Scott surprised me again on Sunday with this new jacket in dark blue. Which I love. He got the same one for me in gray a few years ago, and it has been like my second skin. I seriously wear it a ridiculous amount. Year round. Because I am always cold.

On Monday, I made these cookies. Which are actually called Brookies, because they are half brownie/half cookie. Because Grace's teacher's birthday was two days before school started, we decided we needed to surprise her with a half birthday celebration. Yesterday was the big half birthday, so I thought these were only appropriate. Pretty much any celebration isn't complete without chocolate in some form.

For the record, both sides of the Brookie are equally delicious. Grace called them "the," and Ellie told me they are "heaven." This says a lot because while Ellie can eat candy like it's her business, she's not big on baked goods. I am warning you, if you make these, you will likely consume a dozen of them while they are still warm out of the oven.

Besides eating a ridiculous amount of cookies on Monday, I took Grace to run some sprints. She wants to get her run stronger and faster on the vault at gymnastics, so I told her a few weeks ago that we would start running sprints together. Between the weather and the air quality, we haven't had a chance to get outside, but Monday afternoon the rain finally subsided and the skies were visibly blue for the first time in way too long. She's a speedy little thing and made me work to keep up with her, which was great because I had forgotten what it feels like to push that hard! I'm already looking forward to the next time we get out there to run.

On a more random note, I have apparently taught my children the beauty that is food because Grace asked to borrow my phone the other night to take a picture of her hot fudge sundae.

And speaking of food, Cauliflower Fried Rice is one of meals that has entered the regular rotation at our house. That in itself is notable because Scott will tell you that we rarely eat the same thing twice lately. I have been on a "try all the new recipes I can find" kick the past few months. I did finally start printing out the recipes we all like so I can be sure to make them again. Don't mind the poor picture quality. I was too anxious to get the food in my mouth to wait for the steam to subside before taking a picture.

I just realized three out of the five pictures in today's post are of food. Maybe I should turn this into a food blog. Only then I'd have to run even more because I'd likely end up cooking and baking (and therefore eating) even more than I already do, so then it would become more about running again. It would just be a vicious cycle. So I'll just keep talking about all the randomness that is my life. Food, running and all the rest...

Friday Funnies: So much truth.

I am just not one of those people who could post something every day. I don't run enough to talk about that every single day or even just on weekdays. I don't eat out enough to share my delicious meals with you. And some weeks, like this week, I barely manage to throw something together for dinner every night, so there isn't much worth sharing there either. I don't buy new clothes regularly. That kind of shopping tends to happen in spurts. And a lot of days are remarkably similar to the same day the week before and the week before that and the week before that. You get the point.

But I do like being able to share things I've learned, discovered, love or think are funny. Which is why I have become a big fan of posting Friday funnies. So happy Friday and here you go...

This. So very true.

Every. Single. Day. (Grace!)

Made me laugh. Because it is so very true.

Also made me laugh.

Ellie would be that kid.

True story. Because #food.

Someday. Maybe. But probably not.

It's a daily struggle.

I don't like Cadbury eggs. But it's still funny.

This is TOTALLY Ellie.

Five things Tuesday. It's a thing.

I don't claim to be a fashion, health, beauty or food blogger. Although I throw in a little of those things now and then. This is one of those times. I have a few things I have been loving lately that I thought I would share because sharing is caring.

My cousin bought me some GOOMEE hair loops after we had a conversation about my hair breakage issues. I am loving these! Not only do they come right out of my hair without taking a bunch of hair with them, but they also don't leave a mark. I was a little wary of how well my ponytail would stay put using these, but so far I have been happily surprised. So if you have breakage issues, hate that ponytail line in your hair after a workout, or just want to give your hair a little extra TLC, you need to get some of these. They come in 4-packs and there are a bunch of colors to choose from (mine are actually clear, which I love because they match everything). Another thing I was worried about was how many times I would be able to use one before I had to replace it. It actually bounces right back to its original size and shape after I take it out, so I have been using the same one for about two weeks and it is still like new.
The winter has wreaked havoc on my nails and cuticles. I've had so many hangnails and dry skin issues around my nails that I was getting desperate to get them healthy again. I first tried coconut oil. I've heard so many rave reviews about how it is a cure-all for skin and hair issues, but it didn't seem to make a difference after rubbing it into my cuticles nightly for a while. So I saw this cuticle massage cream at the grocery store and decided to give it a try. I LOVE it. My cuticles and around my nails have recovered nicely, and it has a pleasant peachy scent to boot.
Back to the hair. With all that breakage, I have a ton of loose strands and flyaways when I put my hair in a ponytail. I cannot exercise without a headband to keep all those broken, random-length pieces of hair out of my face. These Saucony headbands are my go-to headbands. They are adjustable, light and comfortable I don't even notice them once I put one on. And they don't slip or move around, no matter how sweaty I get!

I got some new perfume for Christmas. And while Prada Candy remains my favorite, I'm really liking my new Scandalous perfume! It's just the right amount of sweet and subtle.
I got this Lululemon Top Knot Toque from Scott for my anniversary, and it has been the perfect addition to my winter running gear! It can be worn as a hat and I can pull my ponytail through the opening at the top or another smaller ponytail-specific opening, OR I can wear it around my neck to keep my neck and face warmer. It is so soft and is also reversible. I love things that are multifunctional and extra matchy-matchy.

Food IS fuel. And a happy Monday to you.

I am usually all about Mondays. I love the newness and opportunity of a new week.

But yesterday I was sick. And other than no longer running a fever, I am not feeling much better today. I reset my alarm when it went off this morning because I knew it was futile to attempt to work out when my body aches the way it does. So this week’s Monday isn’t turning out to be my favorite.
Instead of being a Debbie Downer though, I decided to throw some randomness at you. Because it is what I do best.

Randomness #1 – I miss writing. Actual writing.  With a paper and pen. Because everything I “write” ultimately needs to be in electronic format, there isn’t much point in putting it down on paper first. So watching my thoughts take shape in ink is something that rarely happens. But that I miss.

Randomness #2 – I love the way the school smells on Monday. Except that it makes me hungry all day. Every Monday is pizza day.

Randomness #3 – I finally got the purse I have been drooling over for months. I got money for my birthday (back in October) specifically for a purse and have been looking for the perfect one ever since. I found one I loved in December but couldn’t justify spending what it cost. But getting it 25% off made it irresistible.

Randomness #4 – As much as I LOVE the snow, I hate being cold. I have the heat in my office turned up to 71 and a space heater under my desk, and I am still cold. Yesterday, I took a nap buried under my electric blanket and two other blankets. And I live in slippers at home. Why can’t it snow in the summer?!?

Randomness #5 – I have been trying to drink a gallon of water every day lately. That’s 128 ounces folks. That’s A LOT of water. I have been making many, many, many trips to the bathroom.

Randomness #6 – I ran 12 miles on Friday. It was one of my toughest runs in a long, long time! It was a good learning experience though. It was a great reminder that food is fuel and of the importance of fueling for the work you are going to ask your body to do. My diet was pretty low in carbs in the days leading up to my run. And my lack of energy as a result was proof positive that I need those carbs to run strong.
