I Couldn't Feel My Face

When I don't blog for a week, I have lots of random things on my mind. Here are a few... I got shingles several years ago and was one of the rare cases that resulted in postherpetic neuralgia, or PHN, which causes severe nerve pain that can last for months or years. In my case, it has been years. And it seems to get worse when I am stressed or getting sick. Basically when my immune system is working harder than normal, my shingles pain kicks in to high gear. Apparently my immune system is on overdrive today because my back is on fire. And itches. But it hurts too much to scratch it. It is cold here. I tried to run outside yesterday but only made it two miles because I couldn't feel my face. Today will be a treadmill day. Parenting is an adventure. After the Bean used a purple Sharpie to write on the glider, I made her help me clean it to teach her it is not OK. Apparently it didn't do what I hoped because while helping she enthusiastically told me, "This is fun!!&q

Instagram: Not All Bad

I was going to rant write about the reasons Instagram is bad when I'm already having a bad day, even if only a few people are posting pictures of their six pack abs, model-skinny legs and 15 mile runs. About how I get jealous when my gorgeous friends get comments about how pretty they are. About feeling guilty for craving peppermint milkshakes when everyone is posting pics of their amazing meals with 10 different healthy eat clean hashtags. And about how I might petition for a "No Love" button if I see one more cat picture. I swear there are at least two felines for every canine on there. But instead of that post, I decided to show you some of the (#runnerdphotoaday) Instagram posts that do I love: Ribbon     Magic   Elf   Santa    Happy Friday all my ab-alicious, fast and far running friends!

Let It Snow

Because I'm a sucker for all things Christmas, when you throw in a way to combine it with being a little healthier, I'm in. Today I began participating in the Elf for Health challenge!! I have been partnered with another awesome elf, and I am excited to get to know her better while we cheer each other on through the daily challenges. Each day there is a new challenge. Today's is to drink my body weight in ounces of water. I don't normally drink over 100 ounces of water in a day, so this will be really good for me. 44 ounces down... You can find out more about the challenge HERE . And it isn't too late to sign up to participate. Elves are reassigned every two weeks, so you can join in for Round 3! This morning I worked up my thirst by running 6.25 miles outside in the snow. I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this run. I absolutely love running in the snow. I don't mind that it takes a mile for my face to stop stinging or two miles for my han

They can't all be good days

I've been sitting here trying to figure out what to blog about without being a complete downer. Today is just one of those days. I'm tired. I woke up with a headache. I feel like I look old. And tired. I feel fat. And ugly. Work is stressful. I haven't run today. Yep, one of those days. Do guys have those days? Other than the obvious work stress, of course. Some days I wish I was a guy. Some days. But not most days. I did get one smile out of the day when I looked down at my littlest bestie holding my hand as we walked into the grocery store this morning. Just looking at her makes me smile. How could it not? Then the store was out of avocados. Figures. Seriously though, what kind of grocery store runs out of avocados?!? Are you depressed yet? Then tonight I saw this... That pretty much says it all. I'll let you know how it goes!

Red, Bells and Holly - Runnerd Style

I can't even begin to tell you how much I'm loving the Runnerd Photo-A-Day posts!! You are some seriously creative and festive runnerds. It not too late to participate! Here's what is coming up for the rest of the week: Today, December 4 - Peace Tomorrow, December 5 - Santa Thursday, December 6 - Elf Friday, December 7 - Snow Saturday , December 8 - Magic Sunday, December 9 - Merry If you haven't left a comment on the original post about the Challenge ( HERE ) letting me know you are participating, please do. It will help me get better prizes for the giveaway!! Yesterday I realized some of these topics are TOUGH. I looked for "holly" during all 7.25 miles of my run yesterday with no luck. Not one house had one decoration with any type of holly on it. And with the incredible amount of decorations in my house, there is a serious lack of holly. I was at a loss. And even my friend named Holli spells it with an "i" and isn't a runnerd
