10 minutes of running...I'm coming for you!

This week is overwhelmingly booked. I have an important, meaningful blog post all written out in my head, but it will have to wait. It is one of those that I want to be able to take my time to write. And today is not a day with extra time. But I have a few other things I want to share with you, so you get those today instead. Things like this this Instagram post Scott tagged me in that is pretty much always how I feel. And this Instagram post my friend Jen tagged me in because she thought I would like it. And she was right. I loved it. And of course there is the obligatory pumpkin item. I made these muffins Sunday morning, and they were the bomb. For the record, I am still not running. But I can see those 10 minutes of bliss happening in the near future!

A little mid-week love: Blender and bars

I haven't shared some of my latest loves lately. And while I was working out yesterday, I realized I should share with you my love for FitnessBlender workouts on YouTube. I've shared some of their workouts before but haven't ever really said much about why I like them. Well, here's why I find myself doing a Fitness Blender workout at least two times a week:  There are workouts for every part of the body of varying lengths so I can always find one that fits my schedule for the day.And you can choose from HIIT workouts, cardio, just strength, pilates, yoga, tabata style, and kids workouts. There is no annoying music. Normally after doing the same workout a few times, I'm sick of the music. These are quiet, with the instructions being the only sound. The instructors also aren't annoying. They keep things pretty straightforward and give good clear instructions and explanations. And they are encouraging but not too chipper. And they are real people. You can t

Lots of pumpkin. Not so much running.

Rachel Platten is killing it with her singles. I absolutely love her latest! I want to start running again just so I can run to it. I have a problem. A pumpkin problem. Pumpkin has its own Board on my Pinterest  page. And it is quickly becoming its own food group. I texted Scott to see if we should start a 21-day pumpkin eating plan. That's 21 days of eating I could totally get on board with! I like pumpkin (spice) flavored things so much that if it's combined with things I don't normally like on their own, such as almonds or  pretzels , I become a big fan. Since we're on the subject of food,  this minestrone soup is hitting the spot lately. I've had it for at least one meal every day since I made it last week. This is BIG because there are very few things I like as leftovers. The secret ingredient that makes it the bomb is Italian sausage, which was Megan's own addition to the original recipe, which she shared with me. Fal

Washing my hair can be exhausting.

Sometimes the thought of washing my hair is exhausting. Not that the actual washing is that tiring. But the drying and styling just takes so much work. Yesterday was one of those times. Pretty much everything seemed extra exhausting. I looked at the display on the elliptical at least a dozen times to see how close I was getting to that 40 minute mark. And when I went to make my post-workout snack, (my new favorite: plain yogurt, red grapes, maple syrup and vanilla) it just felt like too much work. So I evaluated how hungry I felt and decided to wait until lunch to eat...two hours later. Yesterday was a reminder that it doesn't matter whether I'm running or doing other types of exercise, sometimes my body is just tired and some days are going to be tougher physically than others. It was also a good reminder that I need to make sure I get enough sleep. This is something I really need to work on. My workouts seem harder and I crave sweets waaaayyyy more on the days when I

Easing my way back...into RUNNING!

So I've been declared "healed" by my doctor. Two stress fractures in just over a year means I have to ease back into running slowly though. And by slowly, the doc said I have to "run" on the elliptical before I can actually run on a hard surface. But only for about a week. So if my elliptical runs feel good, I'll head out for my first real run in 70 days on Saturday. Instead of a run/walk interval program like I did last time, my doctor prescribed something different. Instead of one minute running followed by a longer stretch of walking and then repeating that sequence, I get to start with 10 straight minutes of running. That means I should get to run at least one solid mile! I am ridiculously excited about it. In the meantime, I have been ellipticizing, cycling and keeping up my strength training. I really like how strong I feel and the muscle tone I've gained over the past few months and don't want to lose it. I am also hoping it wi

The only thing constant in life...

Some things in life are just plain hard. One of these is my girls getting older. I love every stage and age, but moving on to the next one seems to be getting more and more difficult. Ellie turned seven last week and it hit me harder than any of my girls' birthdays ever have. There is something about that age that seems to be the transition from little kid to big kid. Even though she'll always be my baby, she isn't a baby anymore. I'm just glad she is such a lovey, snugly little thing or I'd really be in trouble. It also helps that she's still a little string bean and light enough to easily pick up. But I'm not sure how much longer she'll want to be picked up and held. Change has always been hard for me, but I've tried to learn how to accept and sometimes even embrace it as I've gotten older. However this is one kind of change I just am not ready to accept. I am however trying to prepare myself to be ready to accept whatever my doctor

It's all a moo point.

Naturally, there are things I look forward to as my return to running approaches (hopefully in eight days...fingers crossed): Using my new SPIbelt. I have an older SPIbelt that I really liked using to hold my gels and phone on my long runs. I can't wait to try this one. It is part of the Performance Series and is new and improved, with slots for my gels and a bigger compartment to accommodate the ever-increasing size of my phone. Speaking of gels, I am actually looking forward to my next Salted Caramel GU . I know it will be considerably more than nine days until I'm running long enough to justify fuel while running, but I can still look forward to it! Getting out of the house to exercise. Since I was only cleared to cycle on a stationary bike, I am beginning to get tired of watching TV while trying to pass the time. Although it has helped that I've been watching Friends. That is one show that just never gets old. This is all a moo point. It's like a cow&#
