Most of you probably know about our Runnerd website. It's a great resource for runners, but there's a lot of great stuff on there for everyone: workouts, recipes, tips, inspiration and giveaways! At its most basic though, we started the website as a way for runners to truly connect. The race calendar is one of a kind and was designed totally with the idea of helping runners meet other runners at their races to cheer each other on and cheer each other's victories.
The running community is incredible, full of kind, motivating, encouraging people who have hearts bigger than any other group I've ever been a part of! Maybe it's all that blood that gets pumped to their hearts while running or maybe it's that constant runner's high they all have, but runners are truly the best people.
And since I'm talking about Runnerd, I have to thank my friends who have used the hashtag (#runnerd) and who have helped promote and publicize the website in little ways. Your support means more than you know!
I've been thinking a lot about friends lately. I have always been a person who puts quality way before quantity when it comes to friends. Over the years, I've found it's the little things that show who really has your back and who is a true friend to the core, not just on the surface.
I read an article that talks about how vital quality friendships are for our well-being and points out that they take time to develop and can't be artificially created. These two points really made me stop and think. So many friendships seem to happen overnight, but the ones that stick are the ones that developed and got stronger over time. Those are the friendships I can't imagine not having in my life.
Another thing I loved about the article was a study that showed: "If your best friend eats healthily, you are five times more likely to have a healthy diet yourself." If healthy habits are contagious, I think I've got the right friends!
"In poverty and other misfortunes of life, true friends are a sure refuge. They keep the young out of mischief; they comfort and aid the old in their weakness, and they incite those in the prime of life to noble deeds."
-Aristotle
My truest friends have been behind me, pushing me forward for my noblest deeds and biggest triumphs. I only hope to be an equal force for good in return. And if I can be an aid to them in their old age...or at least provide a little entertainment as I lose my faculties...even better.
Do you have a "best" friend?
What is your favorite website, running or non?
In college my best friend and I focused a lot on getting healthy. We actually came up with a terrific whole-wheat cookie recipe with reduced fat and sugar that I use to this day 20 years later.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I would love to try the recipe and share it !
DeleteFriends are very important but I must admit as I get older I have less and less. I am lucky to be married to my best friend. The rest are all best running friends.
ReplyDeleteBeing married to your best friend is a lucky thing. I am fortunate to be able to say the same thing!
DeleteI agree. As I have gotten older I have seen how important quality friends are in my life. Probably because your time is already so limited, I want to make sure that if I am taking time away (sometimes it is needed ;) ) from my family then it is worth it. Granted, I still I have some friends that are more 'casual'. But this isn't high school anymore either and I want to be myself and feel good with the people I am with - meaning they lift me up and make me want to be better, but without feeling 'less than'. You are definitely one of those people. I am so grateful for you and your friendship.
ReplyDeleteI totally judge who is worth spending time with based on how I feel after I'm with them. You are one of my favorites!! I love how happy I am after we hang out. Or just run into each other at Costco!
