24.6 days of music

My Bean had a bad dream and woke up at 5 am this morning. Since she decided not to go back to sleep, I am very tired and can't remember any of the interesting things I thought to blog about during my run yesterday.

So instead, I am going to share my current running playlist with you. I'm also going to ask you to share your favorite running tunes with me. I need some new tunes for my race next Saturday. I even have an incentive to get you to take the time to leave a comment. The incentive? A $10 iTunes gift card. Here's how you can win it:

  • Everyone who gives me a song suggestion will get an entry to win.

  • Anyone who suggests a song that I actually download will get a second entry.

  • And anyone who suggests a song that I already own but isn't on my playlist already will get a third entry.

  • Blog, tweet, or Facebook about the giveaway and you will get an extra entry as well (be sure to let me know you did this one in another comment).

Now to give you an idea of the kind of music I like, here are most of the songs on my current running playlist.

Don't let this limit you too much. It's mostly just the songs I've purchased in the past few months because I've been too lazy to go through the 24.6 days of music in my iTunes library.

Giveaway winner will be selected by and announced Thursday, June 9th.

  1. I mostly just listen to AC/DC and the like when I'm running. So I'll suggest Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap :)

I know it doesn't really 'fit' with your list, but give it a try - great running song.

I'd pick a U2 song as a suggestion that you own but isn't on your playlist, but that's just too easy.

  8. Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO. (Watch the music video too!)

  9. this is such a great idea!!

    my current running favorites are
    -good life by one republic
-pumped up kicks by foster the people
-moneygrabber by fitz and the tantrums

  10. I like a HUGE variety of music! But my absolute favorite which doesn't even come close to resembling your playlist (but I do have some of you picks) is music by a little known new age pianist: Jon Schmidt.
His latest Michael meets Mozart is FANTASTIC for running! Other fav's of his: Waterfall, Love Story meets Love Story, ROCKmaninoff, All of Me..and I could go on and on.
His music is intense and makes you feel like Superman (okay superwoman) and gets me through tough climbs, fatigue etc..

  11. Those songs all sound good to listen to!

Usher - More (Jimmy Joker remix) seems to be a great song to workout to

  12. Kid Rock - Born Free
    Jennifer Lopez- on the floor
    katy perry - fireworks.
    Pink - Perfect

  13. My 2 favorites are..

    - Shoot to thrill
    - Razor's edge

...and I love the gothic rock (Tristania, Sirenia, After Forever, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Epica, Beseech ecc.).

  17. So little U2 for someone who claims to be their biggest fan! Here's some of what I listen to from the band when I run:
    -Last Night On Earth
-Big Girls Are Best (a little known song from them)
    -Zoo Station
-I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight
    -Desert of Our Love
    -Get on your Boots
    -Mysterious Ways (Massive Attack Remix)

At one point, I had 'Numb' on my playlist. But, if it comes on later during the run when I'm tired, it's less than motivational, so I got rid of it.

  18. Little Lion Man - Mumford and Sons
    Ray of Light - Madonna
Sex on Fire- Kings of Leon
Save your Scissors - City and Colour (more a cool down song but still awesome)

  19. Great idea! My favorite recent discovery for pumped-up running is the band MuteMath. Try "Spotlight" and "Electrify". They have awesome quick driving beats, great for keeping me on pace.

  24. This may sound crazy, but you really should try "Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root. It came on Pandora while I was running my first marathon and it was incredible. It has a catchy (tribal) sound that just pushes you to move your feet. And the lyrics are awesome running lyrics, too!

Rio-Hey Marseilles (a good upbeat great song that makes me wish I was in the caribbean) and most of their album is good too
New Divide-Lincoln Park (when I want some good strong beat)
Tron Legacy Soundtrack-it's a good mid-race album when you are in your groove.
Can't go wrong with some U2, Bon Jovi, sprinkle in a little Flogging Molly (just to be a bit on the rebellious Irish side of things)

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
