Toeing the Line

There's nothing like having to change your monthly goals on the third day of the month. But that's what I had to do yesterday when I did this (the bruised toe, not the dirty ones or the freckle): It didn't even happen while I was doing something fun or crazy. I was just walking from the livingroom to the kitchen and the leg of a chair jumped out in front of my toe. Based on how quickly it became a chubby little sausage and changed colors, I am highly suspicious it is broken. According to the trusty old Internet, I could be looking at six weeks before it is feeling completely back to normal if it is indeed broken. I guess only time will tell. But time I do not have. I have a half marathon in less than a month. So once the pain subsides a little, hopefully sooner than later, I will be slipping on my running shoes. Until then, I have a feeling I will be spending some time on the bike and doing modified P90X Core Synergistics. This won't be an excuse to be lazy. It's just a little bump in my running road.

Now that I made you look at a picture of my foot, here's a more pleasant picture:

Alicia, Me, Farrah

I had an awesome time with Alicia and Farrah when we had a little blogger meet-up to see My Run last week. Since you've probably read enough reviews on other running blogs or maybe even saw it yourself, I'll just give you a few quick thoughts. Loved the reminder of how mental running really is. And how much you can overcome physically if you can get through it mentally. I so need to master that in my own running. Didn't love that he doesn't run anymore. That was very disappointing. But at least I walked out of the theater wanting to push and challenge myself more.

Then I stubbed my toe. Not exactly the challenge I had in mind.

  9. Oh man, that is so frustrating. And I'm sure its painful, too. Pool running is a great supplement if you can't get on the roads for a while!

  11. Well. Keeping with the piggy theme.
Looks like he's a prime candidate for taping/splinting to his dirty neighbor toe, the one that didn't get roast beef. Then run through the pain.
You are probably due for a half marathon PR. No pressure.

  12. oh no!! It is injury season :( I feel like at least half of the bloggers I read right now are injured. But yours is definitely the most unique...if that makes you feel any better...

    Heal quickly!

  14. That's a seriously bruised toe. Try icing it regularly and it should be better soon.

  15. Ouch, but at least you bumped the best toe if you can say that. I'm sure after a few days you'll be running again. Tape it to the toe next to it if it bothers you while running.

  16. URRG! damn chair legs. We chain our up in the garage and only let them in for meals or when it's cold. Hope your little piggy mends quickly.

  17. That looks like it really hurts! I bet it won't take the full six weeks for it to be comfortable enough for you to be out there running again.
Your little outing to My Run looks like it was fun. I liked your thoughts on it.

  18. I did that to my pinky toe too. I was actually amazed how quickly the pain left. The discoloration took a while but (luckily) I didn't miss a day running over it. Thank goodness! I hope you have a quick healing too.

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
