Three Things Thursday

So I'm having one of those days when everyone and everything just annoys the crap out of me. Do you ever have those days? Please tell me I'm not alone in my crazy. I'm thinking a trip to Wal-Mart first thing in the morning wasn't the best way to start things off, but it just kept going after that. I'm hoping writing this and then reading some of your blogs will rid me of my annoyance. Now on to my three things:

  1. If you are reading this in your Reader and you have a minute to spare, click on over and check out my blog's new look. I got rid of the black background, which I actually threw on here around Halloween and just never got around to changing. So let me know what you think. I was going for something simpler and easier on the eyes.

  2. Yesterday I did hill intervals on the treadmill. I haven't really done a lot of "hill" runs, but my October marathon has a few so there's no time like the present to start preparing my legs. I did 7 intervals, 2:00 each, 9:40 pace, incline between 4-6%. I don't really know what I am doing, so if you ever do hills on the treadmill, let me know what you do.

  3. My biggest little midge turned four last month, and I got her "4-year pictures" back this week. I know I am her mom and am extremely biased and it is cheesy and whatever, but she is an amazing little person.

RUN: I started watching Spirit of the Marathon. So far, so good!

  1. I always have days like that! Love the new look. Especially the header, RunnerBarbie!

I don't usually do hills on the treadmill, but you are doing it right ... 2-4 mins in length play around with the incline!

  2. I love the new look of the site. :)

  3. I absolutely love the new look! (And often wondered why you had the black because it seemed to dreary for your perkiness!) Love it!

There's never a good time to go to Wal-mart that place is the funny farm 24/7!

  4. I like your new look! Hope your day got better.

  5. Such a precious picture!! I love the new layout :)

  6. Adorable picture and I love the new header! Love spirit of the marathon too. You'll want to right out for a run when you finish watching it.

  7. Love the new look! And, great pictures of your daughter - adorable! WalMart makes me angry too - when I go it is at 0530 so that I don't have to deal with the crazies! Although, Dad Wonder says that I "smell" like grease when I come home from there, so I go that early too so that I can take a shower.

  8. LOOOOOOVEEEEEE the new look!!!

Runners world online has a great hill workout for the treadmill, to dang hard for me at this point, but a great workout!

  9. Love the new look.
I go to wally on sunday mornings when the church crew are out in church and the not-so-holy ones are sleeping their hangovers off. :)

  10. I don't think there's ever a good time of day to go to Wal-Mart. Last time I set foot in one (it's been years), my anxiety shot through the roof. Too many annoying people that I have such a hard time keeping my mouth shut.

  11. Great new look. I do hills on the treadmill occasionally as well. I don't have any advice because I don't have a clue either.

  12. Great job on the hill intervals. I have never tried them on the treadmill but I think if you google hill treadmill workouts there are some good ones, or try runners world online.

    I like the new look!

  13. I have those days FOR SURE. I love the look of your blog but this is the first time I've checked it out!

  14. I like the new look! And your little girl is so sweet! Four year olds are so fun! :)

  15. That was my Thursday too! Everyone kept pissing me off at work haha. Your little one is so cute!

  16. Love the new look especially the header!!! 4 year olds are the best :)

  17. Much better look for you - good job!

  18. Ooo, Candace- where'd you get the header? I wanna learn. I totally like it and I like the white background.
    Manpris- ew.
Hobble Creek- I'm jealous! Apparently it's the best half in Utah! SGM, hope you get in. Danna's doing both of those races. Maybe we can finally meet, eh?

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
