Follow, Follow Me (Giveaway)

I run alone. Or with my two girls in the jogger. I don't have any running friends.

I actually don't have a lot of friends, runner or non-runner. I am a homebody and a pretty private person (although I am really trying to put it all out there in this blog); these two things do not help me make friends. The whole private person thing also means I am somewhat particular with who I call a real friend because I want to surround myself with people I can totally be myself with and trust. I am also not the type of person who needs a regularly scheduled "girl's night out" to stay sane; I love spending time with my husband and girls, which leaves precious little time for other people (emphasis on precious). And I spend enough time with other moms (mostly my awesome cousin Jen) to get a regular dose of adult conversation.

Now that you know those things, you should also know how much I am loving the runner's world I have found in Bloggyland. I love the honesty, the inspiration, and the encouragment. You have NO idea how excited I get to see a new comment on one of my posts (well maybe you do). So to say thanks, and to get to know more of you who have stumbled upon my blog, I am having a giveaway. It is not sponsored; it is not big. It is just a measley little $15 gift card to Sports Authority from me to one of you. I chose Sports Authority because you can use it online or in the store, so it doesn't matter where you live. Anyone can win.

To enter, all you have to do is:

  1. Leave me a comment. That will get you one entry.
  2. Become a follower of my blog. Leave me a separate comment to let me know you are a follower. That will get you another entry.
  3. Mention my giveaway on your blog. Let me know in separate comment for yet another entry.

That's it folks. You don't have to follow me on twitter or visit any Web site. Just say hello. I will announce the randomly selected winner next Friday, August 7th.

Note: Reading back over this, I realized I sound a little pathetic. I really am not. I just don't have time to make it sound less pathetic, so I'm going to post it and put it all out there, like I said I would.

  2. Oh Candice you are adorable (and even more adorable for posting a pic of the Friends show, which I - to this day - love!). You know -- running is an amazing sport and I got serious about it due to a friend. But after that initial push, running is very much a solitary sport and I love that about it. There is something so redeeming in being alone with your thoughts and pushing yourself through each mile. :D

  40. I don't need to be entered in your contest, I was just amused by your added note at the bottom of your post. Nothing you said sounded pathetic at all. In fact, it sounded exactly like something I'd say (well, I'd modify it a little, since I'm male, but the essence would be the same). And yes, for those of us who are more private, the running blog community is an awesome place to "meet" people and gain a ton of information from others experiences.

  41. Hello,

It's kinda a nice to read somebody else isn't swarmed with friends either. I'm a solitary runner, but I totally agree with you: the sence of community among runners on the internet is heart warming.

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
