We don't just run together as a family around here. Once in a while we like to go on family outings and take advantage of the amazing beauty Utah has to offer. Like with an afternoon at Cascade Springs.
We had a great time wandering around the springs, reading the different signs educating us about the fish and leaves and plants surrounding us.
Until I was reading the sign about stinging nettle out loud and looked over at Ellie Bean who was reaching out to touch a plant that looked exactly like the one on the sign I was reading. Guess what?!? Stinging nettle stings. Just ask Ellie.
When we finally convinced her to rinse it off in the stream, it felt a little better, but I got an extra workout carrying her around to console her.
Once she stopped crying and her finger stopped throbbing quite so much, she posed for a picture in front of some stinging nettle. I'm pretty sure she won't forget what it looks like though.
And that is how you make a family outing truly memorable. Although there are probably other ways...
Have you ever touched stinging nettle or poison ivy?
What ws the most memorable thing about your past few days?
Oh my goodness, that is such a gorgeous area! I can't believe how beautiful Utah is. It is definitely on my travel bucket list!
ReplyDeleteIf you ever make it out here, I can give you pointers on some must see things and places!
DeleteWe love going up there to walk around too. So gorgeous and the kids think it is so fun to get to 'explore' (meaning run around and pretend like they are on an adventure) Glad Ellie was okay. And after carrying her around, I think you most definitely should have gotten that second cup of fro you last night! ;)
ReplyDeleteNext time we must go together!! And stop for froyo on the way home.
DeletePoor Ellie...she is such a trooper though! You totally make me jealous in your posts....it is too hot here to do anything fun outside (besides swimming). No splash pads, no bike rides, no exploring....unless we want to bake!
ReplyDeleteYou get to do fun things all winter though!! It's a trade-off :-)
DeleteYou should see the pics from last summer when we went with Mike and Julie. I have a pic of the 3 boys that is hilarious. They acted like we were torturing them!! Silly kids. I love that place, especially in the fall.
