Somehow it is Thursday again already. And somehow a Thursday went by without me even realizing it. I like to pretend things will slow down once my girls are out of school for the summer. But the reality is that things will just be a different kind of busy.
Anyhow, I know it's pretty much a given that I love running. I mean #iloverunning is even a hashtag on many of my Instagram posts. But I want to talk about some of the reasons I love it.
Some of the reasons I have talked about on here before. Other reasons are obvious. But I've been thinking a lot about why I love running since Monday's events in Boston. So here are some of the things I've been thinking:
Running brings me peace. When I'm sad or frustrated or mad or confused, running somehow puts my emotions in check. I always see things a little more clearly after a run.
Running has changed my life. It has brought people into my life that I'm never letting go. It has taught me I'm so much stronger than I ever thought. That I'm capable of so much more than I ever knew.
Running has changed my body. But more importantly, it has made me love my body. Not because of how it looks but for what it can do. For the miles it can carry me. For the strength it has shown me I have.
Running has never let me down. Even after a hard run, it never takes more than it gives. It is always there when I need it.
Running has shown me what it means to be part of a community. To be part of a group of people who are connected by something unexplainable, indescribable.
So much of why I love running is hard to explain. But then again, if you are a runner, you don't need it explained.

Awesome post! I really like all these things and relate to a few of them. Loving my body for what it can do...oh yes, I'm with you on that one! I should do a similar post. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI realize I love running more when it is taken away from me through an injury. I am newly appreciating it now that I am back running.
ReplyDeleteI love you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece of writing right here. I completely agree on all accounts.
ReplyDeleteMostly it is amazing to me how much running has helped me to appreciate what my body is capable of.
All so true!! :0) Love your Instagram hashtag!
ReplyDeleteI love running to...for all those reasons. It keeps me from going insane during these busy mom years. :) It definitely changes the body though...can't wait to get more miles in after my break due to my back injury.
