My Girls (the other ones) Causing a Stir ... and some runnerdness

The past week has been C-R-A-Z-Y! Life never seems to slow down. I was sure things would fall into a slower and easier routine once my girls went back to school, but there's always something happening to keep things interesting and keep me on my toes.

Last week the excitement resulted in my first mammogram. Don't be too jealous. However it wasn't nearly as bad as all the horror stories you hear. There is some considerable boob smashing, but they bounce right back and it is only a little uncomfortable.

I found a lump, which led to an appointment with my girly doc (aka gyno) and the scheduling of a mammogram and ultrasound. The lump ended up being a cyst surrounded by rigid breast tissue, so all is good. No more mammograms for a while unless I find something else.

I really wasn't worried and didn't want to worry anyone else, so I didn't tell anyone except my hubs. He is the one who insisted I get it checked out. And the two ladies who did the ultrasound said to tell him he is awesome to push me to get it checked. It is always better to be safe than sorry. So check your girls. And if anything ever changes or seems suspicious, get it checked.

I'll admit I'm not good about monthly self checks, but I'll probably be a little better about it now. I just found it by chance because my ta-tas had been a little sore so I was adjusting them in my bra and felt a hard spot on the one side.

Anyhow, that's the big excitement from last week. This week we're going for little less excitement. However I am in a constant state of runnerd happiness and excitement due to the Runnerd Photo-A-Day Challenge. I look forward to every single photo posted! If you aren't following along or participating (it's not too late), you are missing out. And not just because I finally got around to ordering the prizes that will go to several participants chosen by Random.org at the end of the challenge.

Here are just a few of my favorites so far:

You can follow @redheadrunning on Instagram or check out her blog HERE to see more of her awesome pics. I seriously can't wait for her to become Mrs. Spike! I absolutely adore this picture.

This one is by @enjoyingthecourse. Her pics are a lot of fun! And her four-legged friend is irresistible. Follow her on Instagram or Twitter.

Janice is my amazing real life friend and an incredible runner. Her posts always make me smile. However this one made me laugh. It is perfect for her! Follow her on Twitter @janni329 or Instagram @run_far.

Follow @jillconyers on Twitter or Instagram. Her 3:03 plank made my abs hurt just thinking about it.

There are so many more I could post. I will post a few more of my favorites later. And I'll get you caught up on mine.

In the meantime, you can see more on Twitter with the runnerdphotoaday hashtag (#). Or on Instagram by searching for the runnerdphotoaday tag.

Second, can I just say that right now I've got a lot of heavy stuff going on and the wedding has been the last thing on my mind, if not for your challenge (that I'm not doing the best job on to begin with) I wouldn't even be getting as excited as I have been. Add to that your own kind and sweet words about your own excitement for us and I just wanted to say thank you for helping me remember to get excited for becoming Mrs. Spike. I really can't wait either, if only life would stop getting in the way... :) Thank you. <3

  5. I'm glad your lump turned out to be harmless. My husband was actually the one who found a lump in my breast and it turned out to be fine. But it's best to get them checked out and know for sure.

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
