Evil (deep-fried, custard-filled, chocolate covered) Tempation

It's time for some accountability. I can run until my legs fall off, but I'm not going to lose the weight that has been weighing on me for far too long (I'm hilarious) or get the tone abs I've been trying to sculpt for even longer if I keep fueling with Krispy Kremes (guilty of that offense this morning) and following my bowl of pears and cottage cheese with two snickerdoodles. Something has to give, and I'm determined it won't be the scale giving me yet another pound or two. So it's time to start keeping track of what I eat (again) and get back to making smarter choices and less excuses. Trust me; I'm a pro at giving myself a list of excuses and justifications for eating a custard-filled, chocolate-covered doughnut for breakfast. Obviously it's not in the picture because it's in my belly.

So, if you feel like following me and making me a llittle more accountable, my username at MyFitnessPal is ihaverun. The accountability starts tomorrow. I can't bear to see the number of calories I have already consumed today. Maybe after my run. But probably not.

In my effort to make smarter choices, I'll be adding things like this back to my snack line up:

Vega sent me some Energizing Smoothies to try. I LOVED the vanilla almondilla. It was a hands-down favorite! The chocolate was good too. But I wasn't in love with the tropical tango or berry. That's not a surprise though, because I'm more of a chocolate and vanilla kind of girl when it comes to things like milkshakes too. There is also a natural flavor, which is great added to a fruit or green smoothie. I mixed all the different flavors with almond coconut milk. It is my new favorite thing and has made me a smoothie freak (until my hand blender died earlier this week - cue very, very sad music).

I didn't notice that I had an amazing amount of energy from drinking the Vega Enerizing Smoothies, but I definitely felt better about making it my snack choice in place of most of the alternatives. And the smoothies were great at keeping my hunger at bay between meals.

So once my hand blender is back in business, I'll be back to downing smoothies again. Until then, I'll just try to stop after the pears and cottage cheese. If you have any other great snack suggestions, please share! I can always use some new additions to the line up.

  3. Oh my, I would never be able to resist that! I'm going through the same right now by snacking on very chocolaty goodies.

  4. I fueled with double chocolate muffins yesterday. I figure because they are "muffins" and not "cupcakes" it's fine. Right?

  5. yup that's part of why i started strength training finally...i have to build some muscle and curb my sweet tooth to get the results i want without running like 100 miles a week

  6. Healthier snacks I like are: hummus and rice crackers, black pepper spitz sunflower seeds, greek yogurt and honey, celery and smoked salmon cream cheese, roasted seaweed snacks, and ShaSha spelt lemon snaps. Good luck eating healthier, I'm sure you will do great. When I was doing my cleanse I was an angel and now that I'm back to normal I've sort of fallen off the wagon. So I can totally relate to wanting that donut. :)

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
