Princesses with crazy eyes

It's harder than you think to be motivated to write on a running blog when you haven't run for the past month. Yes, as of yesterday, it was a month since my last little (26.2 mile) run. Another visit to my doc yesterday and another possible two weeks without running. Fingers crossed the things I've been instructed to do for the next two weeks have me running before my re-check on the 15th.

And while there hasn't been running, I realized I can wear this year's costume if I ever run a Halloween race. My costumes from this year and last year are both running-friendly. I didn't think about that when I bought them but realized it when I was looking (jealously) at all the Halloween Half pics on Facebook over the weekend.

Instead of running 13.1 miles on Saturday, I went to an awesome Halloween party where we devoured a spaghetti skeleton, tried to eat donuts off a string and saw princesses with crazy eyes. Hope your Halloween was as fun!

And since the Halloween fun is now behind us and Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I am going to share 30 days of gratitude on here. And because my family and my health and all my incredible blessings are a given, I am going to have a little fun with it.

Tuesday, November 1st - Doctors. Who are also runners.
Wednesday, November 2nd - Frosting. Especially on cookies and cakes.

    Today I am thankful for my first run since September 25th and completely pain free! You will heal and you will run again soon! I'm sending good thoughts your way!

  2. I think you're right - working with a doctor who is actually a runner makes a huge difference. I hate those doctors who have the attitude "Duh....stop running."

    You're going to come back even stronger. I'm sure of it.

    (And I'm thankful for pumpkin pie.)

  3. awwww, i know how TOUGH it is whenever i am unable to run, so my heart goes out to u. and i think that what u're doing, having fun at the party and eating donuts off a string are excellent ways to stay upbeat. in times when i'm unable to train like 'normal' it's a chance to spend time on the things i may not have as much time for usually. so spending time with fam and friends is a must.

    that said, keep on staying positive, u'll be back out there soon! i'll send my best healing wishes. :)

    and today i'm going to be thankful for s'mores pop tarts...hehe. :)

    Mike and I were just talking the other day about doctor runners. We both were like, "i would never want to talk to a doc about a running injury unless he was also a runner."

    Today I am thankful for treadmills. I am such a wuss and completley rely on the mill during the winter.

    today i am grateful for friends!!!! like you :) duh. the blog world is so cool like that. some of my closest friends have come from such an unexpected way but i am SO grateful!

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though.
