Things I Love Thursday - Underoos

Readers Note: I apologize for the use of the word "panties" throughout this post. I know some of my readers can't stomach that word, but it was hard to write about this topic without using it a few times. I could only get away with substitutes in some instances.

When I did the ABCs of Me a few weeks ago, I had a few comments on my response to U: Underwear. My response: Usually. I thought there were far more of you out there going commando on your runs. Apparently I was mistaken. So I felt the topic is deserving of a post all its own.

When I started running, I tried a few different types of undies. I knew enough to at least avoid cotton, and I knew I didn't want to deal with something inching its way up my crack while I run, so thongs were out. But after a few failed tries, I decided to try nothing. And it was great.

First, I am a not a fan of visible panty lines (VPLs). Even the all-knowing Urban Dictionary says they are a no-no:

"VPL is where the panties of a woman are visible through the material of lower-body clothing. This is a definite fashion misdemeanor. VPL damages the aesthetic beauty of a fine rump and can be very harmful to a woman's health."

Second, it was just one less thing to worry about when it came to getting ready to run and avoiding chaffing. It also helped that a lot of my running bottoms - all my running skirts and my running shorts - have built-in briefs. The only time I was officially going commando was in my tights and capris. That, however, has changed.

Those marketing people at Victoria's Secret know what they're doing when they send out those free panty coupons. When I got my free pair of Bare Ultimate Hiphuggers, I thought I couldn't love a pair of underpants more. These have NO SEAMS. Yes, you read that right. A runner's dream. No seams. And no VPL. What more could I ask for? Then I got a free panty card for the Incredible Hiphugger. There is a reason it is called Incredible! These are the softest, most comfy undies I've ever had. I. Love. Them. They don't give me a little roll above the waistband, and if you can see a VPL, you are too close to my booty. And they don't move when I run. No wedgie is always a big plus.

So I guess in reality I should change my answer on the ABCs of Me to:

U- Underwear: Yes, please.

  2. Got a free pair the Incredible Hiphuggers myself. You are right they are great. But I plain just love VS. I will have to admit, I have never ran without undies. Love the post.

  3. The only undies I wear are the VS lace thong. I never feel them. Ever. But I might have to try these out.

However, like you, pretty much all my shorts have built in liners so I'm all good in that department.

  4. For running I love the Moving Comfort briefs, however, Vicky S makes some darn good microfiber panties. Also, just like VPL are never acceptable, neither is camel toe. I see a surprisingly number of runners sporting some fab CT.

  9. This topic has been on my mind for a few weeks.
Everytime i put my running pants on i end up frowning and shrugging in the mirror at those darn lines. And not to mention the RU (ride up).
I am sooo happy to hear there is an underwear out there that can finally help us runners! Can't wait to try a pair. Thanks C!
PS: Sub on Monday... coming home from Vegas. Give the princess a big hug from Miss F.

  11. I usually fall in the commando column, but I love finding a good pair of undies! I'm loving some right now from Target. It's like I'm not wearing anything.

  12. You are too funny! But yes, this needed it's own post! And I love the Urban Dictionary, "can be harmful to a woman's health." Really? I had no idea that a panty line can do that! Is that because the fashion police beat you up with their stick or is just the chance of them riding too far up and causing a health concern? In any case, I love it!

  14. I kinda hate underwear. I only wear it sometimes...that's the truth. I never wear it to bed. Just boxers. Gotta let the lady-bits breathe!

  15. Thanks for the info on the VS underwear! I may have to try out a pair!! :0)

  16. You've convinced me. I'll have to try these. I need new undies.

  17. I'm going to check those out - to wear when I'm not running. I am totally commando when I run. The last thing I want to think about is a wedgie when I run!

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
