I love to run. I love my blog. And I love my readers. All those things came together last week when I found out I was included on Broken Hearted Runner Jake Rosen's list of the Best Running Blogs - 2011. Seriously Jake, thank you! I am honored. And to those who have made their way to my blog for the first time, courtesy of Jake's blog, welcome!
Jake's description of my blog: Talks about her running and family, both in an honest way.
The thing that really struck me about this was "in an honest way." I really do try to be honest in my blog. It was one of my main goals when starting a running blog.
I thought a lot about this after I read Jake's description. At times I have struggled with what to include and what not to include and even more with how much to include. Unfortunately, there have been times I have held back. When I sit down to write, I can't help but think of who will read my words. Sometimes I wish I could write for just my fellow runners, people who don't know me personally or who only know me as a runner. There are things I would probably share if people who have known me my whole life or since before I became a runner didn't read my blog. Yet I am also glad I am able to share this part of my life with those same people.
So it has all become about balance. I will continue to be honest. And hopefully not hold too much back. Because I have never known a more supportive and amazing group of people than those I have "met" through my blog.

Thank you for mentioning me in your post. I truly couldn't have completed that list without adding your blog. As you may be able to tell from my compilation of that list, I read a lot of running blogs. I know from my own experiences that yours is among the most honest. You don't stop at highlights and positive experiences. You're openness allows others to connect with you and that is what makes your writing so great.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about how much I'd share if people who know me didn't read it. I write through a filter. Yes, it's truth, but there's more to share.
ReplyDeleteNice shout out from Jake! congrats. Yep, you are authentic for sure.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll try honesty one of these days. Nah.
ReplyDeleteYou have a well deserved spot on that list! And we do appreciate open, honest posts, so thank you!
ReplyDeletejust found your blog. awesome!
ReplyDeleteYea...I agree with you and understand where you are coming from. Love your blog BTW!! And congrats on your listing!
ReplyDeleteNo. Holding. Back.
ReplyDeleteYou. Rock. Sister.
I love the honesty! I've come to think of my blog as a chronicle of my life that I'm leaving for my kids. I want them to know exactly who I am. If I write something and it makes someone think poorly of me, well, I can always remember that I was honest in what I wrote! Keep it up!
