Three Things Thursday - Sanity Edition

1- I should clarify my comment in my last post about so many runners becoming bikers and swimmers. I was talking about the people who are developing a passion for these other sports, not those who do them to cross train. I am all for cross training and have (and use) a bike to prove it. I just can't imagine myself becoming passionate about it like I am about running, but I admire people who tackle all three sports.

2- I did my speedwork on the treadmill yesterday and man did I need that run! It was the first time I have cried during a regular old run. It was just that kind of day. I could go on and on about the things that were bothering me, but what really put me over the edge of sanity is I am starting to think someone took my 4-year-old princess while she was sleeping recently and replaced her with a screeching, squealing little person with a crazy amount of energy and attitude who is smart beyond her years, which is awesome sometimes but was not such a good thing yesterday. I am hoping getting caught up on sleep and getting back to her regular schedule now that we are home from Arizona brings my sweet little girl back, otherwise the treadmill might get worn out.

3- I am going to add P90X into my workout plan starting next week. I am not going to do it every day for the next 90 days because I don't have the time (or more accurately I am not willing to sacrifice the time) it takes to do it every day in addition to my running. Instead, I am going to use it as a cross training tool a few times a week. I am hoping this will force me to be better about strength training and might help me drop those few pesky pounds that keep hanging on no matter how much I run.

  1. Thanks for the the link love!

Maybe your four year old and my five year old have been reading up on the same stuff. Bedtime has been torturous here!

Good luck with P90X once I finished, I needed a break. I think I am going to start doing it on the days that I don't run.

  2. Age four is a tough year - in my house it was almost worse than 2, and that's really saying something!
I hope you like the P90X. I haven't tried it, but I am both intrigued by and afraid of it.

  4. No matter how my kids behave, I can't do anything but laugh.

    Of course, I don't own a treadmill...

Glad running was able to restore your sanity. It's helpful like that.

  5. Getting back to normal after a vacation is tough for kids. I'm sure your 4yo will be sweet again :-)

  6. I think a lot of people use the ab stuff from P90X. Good luck!

  7. It must be the same person that swapped my four year old too. She just woke up one day and decided she needed to run this house herself.

  8. I admire people who develop passions for swimming and biking, too. I like to add some swimming and biking as cross-training but I agree that I don't know if I could ever be as passionate about it as I am about running.

  9. I need to cross train - the little bit of P90X I've done was fun! Dude is funny. Enjoy!

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
