1 - The Utah Valley Half Marathon is in two days, so I have been really focusing on what I eat and on drinking enough water each day. I am trying to do all I can to give myself the best opportunity to do well on Saturday.
2- My right lower leg has been bothering me since I ran on Monday. It is weird because I can’t pinpoint the pain. It’s almost like it radiates from my shin through to my calf. Ibuprofen is helping a lot, but I can always tell when it is wearing off. I rode the bike yesterday instead of running. I’m really hoping my leg feels better by Saturday.
3- As you can tell, I am excited about Saturday’s race. I have to admit, there is one part of the “event” that I am not looking forward to – picking up my packet. It seems like every time I pick up my race packet the day before the race, I am so intimidated by the other people there. I notice how fit and fast they look, how calm and sure they seem. It’s funny because all that melts away on race day. Somehow being in running clothes and shoes, waiting anxiously for the race to start, becomes this great equalizer. On race day, I am as comfortable chatting with a 5:30/mile runner as I am with an 11:00/mile runner.
It just makes me wonder … am I alone in my intimidation?
RUN: In case my Internet continues to hate me and I don't post again before Saturday, I have only one goal: cross the finish in less than 2 hours.
I hope your legs feels better and GOOD LUCK!!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I hope you feel better before the race. ICE, FOAM ROLLER and rest!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope your leg feels better!!
ReplyDeleteI hope your leg feels much better by Saturday. You are not alone in the intimidation factor--we all do it. The thing is, those same people are looking at you and being intimidated!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
good luck on your sub 2! And I feel intimidated all the time even at 5k's!
ReplyDeleteGood luck this weekend! Hope the pain goes away and you can run strong to a under two hour half!!
ReplyDeleteI understand how you feel among the other athletes.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, one day you'll roll up and just know that you belong.
Good luck with your Goal for this race! I thought about running the Utah Valley Half, but it is less than a week before Ragnar and I am already running that :(
ReplyDeleteGood luck on Saturday! I hope your leg feels better!
ReplyDeleteHope your random leg pain disappears. Could it be the taper pains that people always talk about?
ReplyDeleteI'm more intimidated by people on race day than I am at the expo, but I generally don't pay much attention to others at the expo - I'm all business, with the goal of getting in and out as quickly as possible.
Good luck! Hope you leg feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteYes, I feel intimidated as well. When I went to pick up my half packet, I had no clue what to do (we had to activate our chips on this machine) and felt silly stumbling through all the lines.
You will do great!
Pulling for you, Candice!
ReplyDeleteYou're so not alone in this! I feel the same way until we're all standing there waiting for the race to start. Then, it's like we're all BFF's.
ReplyDeleteI have just started wearing compression socks, having great results with lower leg pain reduction. Good luck
ReplyDeleteGood Luck! I'm reading on Sat morning and you're running right now!!!
ReplyDeleteYou rocked it! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteNo way do you feel along in your intimidation! My first race packet pick-up was yesterday, and literally everyone looked jacked. Two people at packet pick-up also asked if I was running the 5k, and when I told them I was running the 1/2 marathon, I felt pretty judged. You just gave to try and ignore them! Talking with people as you run and the finish line seem to be the great-equalizer to me.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the race! Hope your leg makes a full recovery!
