Those words have a whole new meaning after today's run. I headed out with the girls in the double jogger, hoping for ten miles. When even the downhills in the first mile seemed to take extraordinary effort and I felt like I was hardly moving, I started rethinking the distance. I was doing an out and back, so I had to decide ahead of time when to turn around. Two miles in, I was vowing to only run with the girls before 9 am. Starting at 10 am isn't going to cut it anymore. The stroller seemed to weigh more than ever and it was my warmest run of the year, so I turned around at a little over two and a half miles and we headed back to the car. I finished five and a half miles drenched in sweat. I thought about finishing on the treadmill, but I decided to spend an hour doing strength training and core instead.
Monday's six miles were the complete opposite of today's run. I ran outside without my girls, so I let my legs pick the pace and just ran. I finished in 55:14. The weather was perfect and my legs felt great; they even powered through the hill that was mile three without slowing.
Tomorrow I am doing speedwork and then I will run six miles either Friday or Saturday. That will be my long run for the week since next Saturday is my half marathon. I am attending my cousin's wedding on Friday and have a family reunion on Saturday, so I'll just get it in whenever it fits. Oh, and by the way ... HAPPY NATIONAL RUNNING DAY!

How do you like the double jogger? I don't have kids yet, but someday when I do I hope to continue my activities...
ReplyDeletei say miles with the double stroller count for double
ReplyDeleteI agree with Amanda - double points for running with a double stroller.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the frequency of U2 song names as post titles. I'll start to worry though if I see a post called "Numb" or "Wave of Sorrow".
Double joggers are tough! I didn't last long back when I using one. Can't blame you for cutting it short!
ReplyDeleteOh the heat is killing me. I have an after 7:AM policy at this time of year so I have been getting up super early.
ReplyDeleteDouble jogger for 10 mile, that's impressive.
I really admire people that can run with those strollers - that's gotta be so tough. Kudos!
ReplyDeleteI give you credit for even thinking about 10 miles with a double jogger in hot weather. The longest I've gone is 3.5 with one little guy in the stroller. I keep wondering if I'll be able to do a long one with him. I better do it soon because he's 7 months and already 20 lbs. !!
ReplyDeleteI dream of days like this when the kids jump out and say, "hey Dad, you look a little hot, let us push you for a change."
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your early morning runs with the kids!
Props to you for the 5 miles with the double jogger! I'm not sure I could do that at all!
ReplyDeleteThat is my all time favorite U2 song, btw.
You are awesome!! Way to go :)
