Two Things Tuesday

This post is not running-related, but I have two things I need to throw out there to all of you in my bloggy world and hopefully you will throw something back, specifically your opinions.
  1. I added a poll to my sidebar. Someone mentioned it is hard to read my blog because of the black background. Let me know what you think!
  2. I am working with a client that is a photographer. What are the things you look for in the photographer you choose to have document the important moments in your life? What would sell you on one photographer over another? Why would you pay more for one over another?

RUN: I have a lot of safety pins.

  1. Black background is fine, but purple font is difficult to read in my opinion

  2. I agree with marathonmom--I like the black, but the purple is a bit tough to read.

  3. Was your lettering always white? I can't remember. I dont really remember having too much trouble reading it. Either way I am good! I usually read in my google reader then click on the blog to comment!

  4. I agree with the others - the purple is the only part that I have found difficult. But, I'm not complaining...

  5. 1) Your blog has a black background? Hadn't really noticed.

    2) Since you asked for opinions......As someone who used to own a successful photography business, the thing that I notice right away is the lighting of the photos (although I've been admittedly lazy with my blog photos, but hey, it's about the running and not the photography). Especially since the advent of digital SLRs (and their relative inexpensiveness), everyone's a photographer now. I immediately look at the photos to see if the person behind the camera knows how to use lighting to their advantage, both natural and artificial. I would never hire a photographer that simply puts a flash on top of their camera (or worse, uses the built-in flash), because it casts a horrendous shadow underneath everyone's chin line. Having someone who knows where to put a light and how to use it is worth paying $$ for. Rant over.

  6. I don't use a photographer often, but we did on a recent trip to Mexico. This person was very creative with her shots and did not do any standard poses. She knew how to angle the camera just right for the best shot and kept us looking natural, not stiff. She kept things very relaxed, which kept us relaxed and resulted in some great shots.

  7. When I use a photographer i really look at the their work that will determine how much I'm willing to pay. Also what kind of package deals do they have but mostly their past work.

as far as your background it is a bit tough but I agree with the other girl that I usually read in my reader anyhow so... yeah. lol

  8. I think it is a little hard to read! It works though :) As for photographer look at their past work and see if it fits you needs/desires :) Good luck!

  9. I agree with the rest...purple is not eye friendly but the white on black is fine. As for a photographer...if his name is Ron Adair do NOT hire him! (He is a photographer that lives in your neck of the woods.) He did my wedding and although I like the pictures...it took me five years, yes FIVE YEARS, to get everything I had paid him for.

  10. I think part of it may be the font. Try the Arial and see what happens. You also have alot of brightness going. One thing I tried is using an off white color.

  11. Love your survery :) I would pay more for a photographer. I went with the cheapest for my wedding photography and I paid for that!!!

  12. It's not significantly harder for me to read the blog now. I would pay more for someone with cool effects and style, cool albums, and extras in the deal (such as points toward products, more time during my event, etc.

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
