Energizer Bunny

Since my sheets are in the dryer and I can't go to bed until they are dry, I decided to spend my spare time here, with you. I realize it is time to buy another set of sheets; my other set fell apart a few months ago and I have yet to buy more. Having more than one set of sheets is a good idea when you have two little kids who end up in your bed every now and then (which means pee, puke and other bodily fluids could accompany them). But I actually didn't sit down to write about needing to buy new sheets.

I am up to running two miles per day this week. Woo-hoo! My knees are feeling great, my abs are getting stronger, and I have learned some awesome (in other words I look like a TOTAL dork doing them) new moves to get and keep my legs strong in places that running doesn't target. So it would seem the physical therapy is doing the trick as far as getting my knees to their happy place. I only have physical therapy once this week and once next week. If all goes well, I'll be up to three miles each day next week and then back to my (somewhat modified) marathon training plan the following week.

I am trying not to stress about my two mile runs after looking at my regularly scheduled training plan for this week: 5 miles, 6 miles, 11 miles and optional recovery runs on the other days. At least I might get to that "happy place" distance during this week's runs since that usually happens around the mile and a half mark.

What is your running "happy place" distance when you feel like you could just keep going and going and going like the Energizer bunny?

  1. So glad you have been able to add another mile this week! Congrats!

My happy place is around 3 1/2. I drag until then.

  5. I don't know that I have a certain distance. It varies so so much depending on the day. In general 6 miles is a great distance for me to go. (not on the treadmill though)

  6. You are on the right track. I just keep telling myself better to come to the start line of a race undertrained than overtrained. Someone really wise said that. You will be fine, and best of all, you will be able to run. Don't let that training plan psych you out.

And yes, you need more sheets. I am wondering how long you have to have sheets before they fall apart on their own?

  7. I would say mine is about 6 miles. I still consider myself new :-)

  8. I LOVE LOVE 10 milers, Double digits but not too far to feel sore the next day. You are being SMART and easing your way back. EXCITED to have runner Barbie back.

WE only have one set of sheets too..

  9. I'm glad you're back on track! I would say that after about 4 or 5 miles I'm finally feeling loose enough to enjoy the run. Good luck!

  10. It's so hard to get back on track after an injury so good for you! My happy place isn't usually until the 4 mile point. I really wish it was earlier though!

  11. Five miles. That is the magical distance for me! It's just enough that I could stop and feel like I had a good run... but also I feel so good that I could do a few more easily :)

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
